My Most Significant Purchase of 2012

I'm starting a day late with Reverb12. Its a great post prompter to help us remember all the great things we did this year. As well as to help us reflect and make changes so that 2013 can be better.

Day 2 is 'My most significant purchase of 2012'

2012 seemed to be the year of never quite getting far enough ahead. As a result I only had one large purchase this year. I was my lovely, white HP laptop.

My little netbook had been annoying me for a while at the lack of power and size. If you only use your computer for social media and blogging, then a netbook is really not a good choice. Then the moment that everyone computer owner dreads happened...the blue screen of death. Thankfully it seemed to keep recovering, but each time I was apprehensive that this would be the last time. After a bit of searching around I discovered that my little netbook was filled to the brim and that it would probably benefit from a clean out and have all the non essential stuff transferred to a external hard drive.

It was coming up to tax time so I set aside some money to buy a hard drive. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am the queen of impulse buying. I went into a local electronics store with the intention of buying a hard drive. I decided to take a bit of a squiz at the laptops and see if there was anything in my price range. Cue 30 minutes later, and I was walking out the door with my new laptop.

I love my laptop. I don't have a great deal of space in my tiny unit so it's great to have a laptop that I can sit on the couch with and watch tv while I am surfing the net. This is also probably why I rarely get to sleep before midnight.

What has been a significant purchase for you in 2012?

Mindless

So last week I started 'another' weight loss challenge.  The eating effort in the first week was dismal.  I ate take aways most of the time.  A week long gastro bug was my only saviour so I lost 2kg. Gastro bug has gone now, so I really have no excuse.

It's really become apparent that there seems to be no communication between my hand and my brain.  It seems I am binging. Eating until almost bursting point.  Eating until I can feel my stomach hurt.  Then having a few more mouthfuls, just to be sure.

I have put on 40kg in the last 12 months.  30 of them being in the last 6 months.  Nothing fits and I am getting closer to having to only shop in specialist shops.  I haven't been this heavy since I was pregnant.

I have started a food diary to try and keep myself accountable.  I think that I need to stop buying processes stuff.  Both for Dyllan and I.  The trouble with it, is that it requires no preparation so its 'no drama' to eat an entire packet. There is no effort involved.  If I have to make all my food, then I will be less inclined to eat more than I have to.

This has to stop. I am sick of looking in the mirror and hating what I see. I am sick of none of my clothes fitting.  I am sick of having no energy.  I need to change this.

Slow down dickhead

In Queensland the road toll for 2012 is standing at 12...that's almost a death for everyday in the new year so far.  That's horrible.  That is 12 father/mother/son/daughter/brother/sister's that have been lost.  12 families affected or even less if there were multiple fatalities.

There were 3 accidents in the space of 12 hours yesterday.  The road has only just been opened tonight.  So sad for all the families involved.

Today I was walking to pick up Mini Man, it had been raining and just started again.  I heard screeching tyres and looked up.  A car was doing doughnuts down a small suburban st and then smashed into a parked car.  Are you fucking kidding me! If anyone had of been on the footpath they would have either been killed or seriously hurt.  Do people leave their brain at home when they get in a car???

This open letter by a police officer who lost her child due to a reckless driver really drives the point home.  In it she writes this:

I would like to ask you to consider for a moment how you would feel if because of your stupidity or selfishness you killed your best mate, a parent, brother, sister or an innocent child? Could you sleep at night?

Read the full letter here. Pass it along to family and
friends an please drive safely.
