Musings of the Misguided

Whatever Trevor

Tonight I had planned to write a wildly sarcastic post about housework and the lengths I go to, to avoid it but alas I'm not really feeling it.

This last week has seen tensions start to build...and erupt.  The eruption however did nothing to dissipate the growing tension.  Everything is making me angry...out of proportion angry.

I feel horrible...I spend most of the day sleeping on the couch.  I'm barely looking after myself, using what little energy I have to look after Mini Man.  I still haven't heard from the moronic case manager and I don't know what I would say anyway.  What are they going to do? Tell me its probably just a 'phase' that it will pass and just hang in there.  If it's just a phase why does it keep coming back?

I'm at a loss as to what to do.  How do I fix this? Do I just ride out the wave and hope that it goes away soon?

Dear lord its an invasion

This may or may not be an accurate depiction of the actual size of the cockroach.

I have had a cockroach infestation for the last couple of months.  I have let off a couple of bombs but the fuckers just keep coming back.

I like to think that not much freaks me out...but cockroaches are definitely one of the things that do.  I scream like a big girl when I see one.

I decided to bite the bullet tonight and clean out my pantry so that I can let off a bomb in there tomorrow.  BIG MISTAKE! They are now running free around the house.  In fact one just dropped on my head as I started writing this. Yes I did scream like a girl.

I think that I even found the 'queen' cockroach.  It was massive.  Thankfully I kept myself composed as I was standing on a chair at the time.

Here's to killing the fuckers and not having any more cockroaches drop on my while I'm slothing on the couch hard at work.

Cry baby

I'm in a few online mum forums and time after time the question is raised 'When is it ok to let my baby cry?'.  The answer always varies and there are a few extremes in both directions.

Me? I'm a fan of teaching self settling.

Some experts state that letting a baby cry has long term emotional effects. Personally I think it's a load of crap.  My mum and I often joke that its just another thing added to the list that 'experts' say is the reason that I have mental health issues.

I didn't really follow any method with Mini Man but used the elimination method.  If I knew that all his physical needs were being met, then sometimes it's ok to let him cry a little.  There is nothing wrong with his ability to show his emotions.

I've even heard some mothers comment that parents who practice controlled crying don't love their children as much.  What a kick in the guts for new mums.  Everyone has their own way of doing things and you do what works for you.  For us, it was self settling.

I always like to use my brother and I as an example as my mum had different parenting skills with us both due to the age gap.  I was a screamer...mum did everything to try and get me to stop.  My brother was a pretty placid baby...hell I baby sat him without a dram a from when he was 3 months old. A screamer is naturally going to be held more...a placid baby generally isn't.

If you were to ask which of us has the better emotional control and development, it is my brother...and he's 12.  When I was 16 a psychiatrist said that I had the emotional coping skills of a 10 year old...and he was rounding up.

So where do you stand? Are you a self settler or a rock to sleep kinda mum?

Magpies suck

It's magpie season again....a season that is quite possibly more painful than footy season.

Yesterday I found out that Mini Man has next to no fear...or brains one or the other.

We were at our mums group and Mini Man decided to chase a magpie with a shovel.  No I am not kidding.  This kid is insane.

Mini Man was winning for a while...until he turned his back, then it was on for the magpie.  One of the other mums had to run out and save him.

This then made the park a battlefield...thankfully the play area had a big shed over it.  I am petrified of magpies..made worse by me getting pecked in the back of the head a couple of weeks ago.

Once it was time to leave I made a dash for it with a bag on my head.

The moral of the story: Don't fucking piss off magpies!

Hello Moron

I've decided that it must be a prerequisite of working in the fast food industry to be a complete moron.  I'm constantly amazed at just how stupid one person can be.

They are also usually rude and impatient.  I deal with a toddler all day....sometimes you are the only 'conversation' I have during a day...a little politeness wouldn't go astray.

Tonight we went to our local "unnamed fast food eatery".  There was lots of people...I knew that it was a recipe for meal fuck ups.

Firstly they skipped the guy in front of me and got my meal first...but it was wrong.  They had it on a tray when I had specifically asked for take away.

Secondly, I hadn't been given my drinks.  They bought them over asking if there were both cokes....no they weren't and they weren't both small either.  Cue eye rolling.

Thirdly they put so much ice in my drink that I got about 5 mouthfuls before it was empty.

Oh yeh it was soooo worth breaking my attempts at healthy eating over.

What the?

It's the silly season again.....

This year I managed to sweet (ha!) talk Major Man into being a bit more organised with the grand babies Christmas presents and put a layby on so we aren't forking out hundreds of dollars just before Christmas. Also because I am the one who has the honour of doing the Christmas shopping and the sooner I get it over with the better.

It took me an hour to get it all done.  Major Man always buys the grand babies clothes.  I spent almost half of that time looking for something for his 7 year old grand daughter.  Why you ask? It's because apparently all girls like to dress like they are prostitutes...regardless of their age.

Exhibit A:

These are GIRLS size 8 shorts.  The legs aren't even as long as my hand....and yes that is the fork you can see sticking up at the front because the legs are so short.

I've written about the over sell of sex to young girls before yet it still doesn't cease to amaze me.  Anyone with kids knows that sometimes it feels like a blink and you'll miss it experience when it comes to children growing up.  Why is it then that we are having these images and 'ideals' shoved down our throats about what our girls should be wearing from a young age.  There's plenty of time for them to grow up and dress like a prostitute if that's what they desire.

The thing that possibly worries me most? That these young girls parents are buying this stuff for them.  Retail outlets work on a demand process...if no one buys it, then they don't sell it.  What kind of messages are we sending our young girls when we say it's alright for a 7 year old to dress like an adult?

A little compassion ploise

One of the major things that stopped me from going to classes at the gym was that I didn't want to be the fat chick struggling through the class while all the gym bunnies breezed through it.  How I was wrong.  You know what? I am glad that I am wrong...at least at my gym anyway.

There is one woman who goes to most of the classes I go to and to me she is so inspirational.  Not because she is a size 8 gym bunny but because she is overweight and is actively doing something about it.  She has been doing double classes, struggling through them but still coming back anyway.  By her own admission she still has a lot of weight to lose but I admire her for getting out there and doing it.  She can't always do all of the exercises but she does them to her level and that's the most important.  We all have to start somewhere.

What I am not happy about is comments that other gym goers have made about this woman giving it a go.  One in particular that got my back up was 'she can't even do things properly. Why does she bother?'  She is probably 'bothering' for the same reason that everyone starts exercising, because she wants to be a healthier version of herself.  There is a bit of a 'culture' surrounding the gym scene that it is only for skinny, fit people and this persons comments just help to cement this misconception.

Just as I said thin people exercise too, this goes both ways...unhealthy, unfit, overweight people use the gym too.  There just needs to be a bit more support for everyone who gets out there and 'just fucking does it'.

To chop or not to chop

This post is going to be about a pretty controversial topic but I'm going to write it anyway.  If every one stopped themselves from writing or saying something that they thought would ruffle a few feathers then the world would be a pretty dull place.

I used to get involved in online debates but had to stop as they were making their way into my personal life and having a detrimental effect on my mental health.  I have a hard time dealing with the fact that some people are just douche bags who refuse to see reason.

Now in this 'day and age' it may come as a shock to hear that some people still circumcise their boys.  I am one of them.  It cost me a packet but I don't regret it.  I weighed up my the pros and cons and decided the pros outweighed the cons.

I've been told some 'awesome' reasons why I shouldn't have gotten him done.  One that still makes me chuckle is that circumcision prevents a man from being able to reproduce effectively.  Major man and his rabbit like producing abilities and that of his two sons definitely disputes that reasoning.  Between them they have 12 children.....  When I put this to the person, their response was that well it impaired my sexual function.....After reading his facebook page and blog I suspect it has more to do with his douche bagness and lack of personality that his 'sexual function' is impaired.

I consulted a few friends that work in the medical field and the response was almost the same with all....foreskin infection is the worst infection they have ever had to deal with.  One even went as far as to say that they would deal with 10 crash victims over 1 foreskin infection.  I don't want my son to have to suffer that when he gets to an age when he can't take care of his own personal hygiene.  If he is anything like Major Man he will refuse to get help until he thinks his old fella is going to fall off too o_O

I had one person against it and well she likes to inject random medication into people so I take her opinion with a grain of salt.

So whether you chop or not...it's your choice.
